Getting started in the Netherlands
I’m not from the Netherlands. And while I’ve lived here for nearly 10 years now and call it home, it hasn’t always been that way. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, but my family couldn’t afford an apartment so we lived in a hut on top of a mountain. I had big dreams of exploring the world — different people, places and things, getting my education abroad and making a real impact.
I watched my parents work hard every day as construction workers, but still struggle to make ends meet. But the small way my family lived was no deterrent for my dreams, and around the age of 19 an opportunity found its way into my lap. At that time a family I knew offered me a job in London as an au pair, without hesitation — and without necessarily knowing what an au pair did — I took it.
I took a risk. I left my family, my home and the only life I’d known for the mere chance at achieving my dream. It paid off, and since then I’ve lived in places all around the world: Beijing, Luxembourg, the Netherlands…
Expanding your business to the Netherlands
I know all about starting over in new places, building something from nothing and taking risks. So I decided to turn my experience, knowledge and passions into my day job and start SME Solutions.
Starting up a B.V. in a new place can be a little intimidating, everything from the local business regulations, to the customs and culture varies from place-to-place.
